With a strong wish to combine industry and environmental friendliness, Reidar Braathen jr. started the work of making OSO one of Norway’s very first environmentally sustainable companies in 1956. Among the most important achievements is the establishment of the OSO ECO foundation with 5 million NOK in capital, supporting environmental projects. Today, the company gives 5 % of net profit to environmental work, and has received numerous awards.

Thor Heyerdahl inspired us to establish the OSO Eco Foundation in 1996. The foundation was started with the intention of ”Being to the best of both man and nature” and received 5 million NOK in funding from OSO Hotwater. The foundation’s projects since the start have been many. Environmental causes have received support from the foundation, such as Bellona’s North Sea report, climate research in the arctic and the Rain forest foundation.

OSO has received several national and international awards in acknowledgement of its environmental work, among others the “Glassbjørnen honorary award” for unique environmental work through 30 years (2005), the “SCANVAC award” for “Best Environmental Company in Scandinavia” (1995) and “Best environmental and energy efficient product” (2004).

The environmental work through more than 40 years has resulted in a highly efficient and automated production without any harmful emissions and with a minimum consumption of resources. OSO’s products have shown an unprecedented life cycle economy with an average life span of 25 years. OSO’s products are characterized by very low heat losses. OSO ECO Foam insulation is used to insulate the domestic water heaters.

The company is certified according to ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment) and OHSAS 18001 (HSE).
